  9.      The HP EtherTwist hubs are Type 10BASE-T multiport repeaters for use in
  10.      twisted-pair LANs. These hubs  deliver industry-leading
  11.      price/performance in both large and small networks. They offer network
  12.      management, and they support growing topologies with flexible backbone
  13.      connections.
  14.         The HP EtherTwist Hub Plus and Hub Plus/48 are designed for networks
  15.      that require LAN-based network management. They provide 12 and 48
  16.      twisted-pair ports, respectively.
  17.         The EtherTwist hubs are part of the HP EtherTwist family of network
  18.      components. These LAN components - hubs, bridges, adapter cards, and
  19.      transceivers - provide your network with high performance in a low-cost
  20.      hardware solution. Easily racked together and connected with a thin
  21.      coaxial cable between their integrated BNC ports, the hubs, bridges, and
  22.      routers merge with each another along a virtual extended backplane. This
  23.      gives you full cardcage-like functionality without the expense and
  24.      limitations of a cardcage design. Using only a few different hardware
  25.      components, each designed for optimum price/performance, you can build a
  26.      network that ranges from a few nodes to thousands.

  29.      o Provides 12 twisted-pair ports (Hub Plus) or 48 ports (Hub Plus/48).

  35.        with modular RJ-45 plugs (using an optional 12-port modular adapter,
  36.        HP 28638A).

  38.      o Includes BNC and AUI ports for simultaneous connection to both thin
  39.        coaxial cable and (via transceiver) thick coaxial, fiber-optic, or
  40.        twisted-pair cable.
  41.      o Isolates network faults by automatically segmenting ports disturbing
  42.        the network.
  43.      o Includes LEDs for a quick visual check of individual link status, port
  44.        segmentation, collisions, activity, and power.

  47.        hub. This port connects to a terminal or terminal emulator either
  48.        directly or via modem.

  67.      The EtherTwist hubs provide flexible connections for both subnets and
  68.      backbones. The twisted-pair ports let you take advantage of twisted-pair
  69.      LAN cabling, with its ease of installation and administration.
  70.      Twisted-pair connections are made through a 50-pin Telco connector on
  71.      the back of the hub (4 on a Hub Plus/48). This allows you to make a
  72.      single connection using a 25-pair bundle (typically running to a
  73.      cross-connect block). Or you can attach a 12-port modular adapter
  74.      (HP 28638A purchased separately), which breaks out the 50-pin connector
  75.      to 12 modular (RJ-45) jacks; these provide the connections for 4-pair
  76.      cables that serve individual stations on the network.
  77.         You can make backbone connections to the hub using the integrated
  78.      ThinLAN (BNC) port for thin coax, and the AUI port for thick coax or
  79.      optical fiber. Both the ThinLAN and AUI ports can be connected at the
  80.      same time. You can connect multiple hubs to a thin coaxial "backplane,"
  81.      which in turn can be connected to another backbone via the AUI port.
  82.         In addition, you can cascade hubs with twisted-pair cabling, using
  83.      either a direct connection between twisted-pair ports on each hub, or
  84.      using a twisted-pair to AUI connection through a twisted-pair
  85.      transceiver (HP 28685B).

  88.      HP's EtherTwist hubs are fully compliant with the 10BASE-T standard.
  89.      HP has done extensive compatibility testing with other 10BASE-T
  90.      equipment on the market today, giving you the confidence you need to
  91.      build a multivendor network that best fits your business requirements.
  92.      In addition, the HP EtherTwist hubs are completely backward-compatible
  93.      with HP StarLAN 10 adapter cards, transceivers, and hubs through
  94.      configuration of the link integrity signal (link beat).

  96.      Maximum Reliability Through Fault Isolation
  97.      An HP EtherTwist hub automatically identifies any segment disturbing the
  98.      network and disconnects it from the rest of the network
  99.      (autosegmentation), ensuring network integrity. Once the problem is
  100.      corrected, the hub automatically reconnects the segment.

  102.      Control of Your Network with Hub Management
  103.      The HP EtherTwist Hub Plus and Hub Plus/48 support SNMP/IP and can
  104.      communicate over the LAN with HP OpenView Hub Manager for DOS
  105.      (HP 28686D) and HP OpenView Interconnect Manager for HP-UX. From a
  106.      single network management station, a network administrator can monitor
  107.      and control any Hub Plus on the network. Hub Manager continuously
  108.      updates the OpenView Windows graphical network map to display the
  109.      current state of the network, and notifies the network administrator of
  110.      network events. Configuring, monitoring, and controlling the network is
  111.      made easy with the HP OpenView device managers and the HP EtherTwist Hub
  112.      Pluses.
  113.         Coupled with HP OpenView Resource Manager, the HP Hub Pluses are
  114.      capable of providing instrumentation-like functions across your network.
  115.      This will eliminate the need for a LAN analyzer per segment. HP EASE
  116.      (Embedded Advanced Sampling Environment) is a breakthrough technology
  117.      that allows HP EtherTwist devices to do protocol analysis. This will
  118.      identify top talkers, heavy users, errors, and communication pairs.

  127.         HP EtherTwist local area networks use twisted-pair cabling (ordinary
  128.      telephone wire). Two pairs of 22, 24, or 26 AWG unshielded twisted-pair
  129.      wire are required for each connection. Shielded twisted-pair wire can
  130.      also be used.
  131.         The HP WireTest Service is available to qualify your existing
  132.      telephone cabling for use in a Type 10BASE-T network. Contact your local
  133.      HP Sales and Support Office or your HP Authorized LAN Dealer for
  134.      information and availability of this service. If you have a large
  135.      network and wish to do your own testing, you can purchase the HP 28687A
  136.      Wire Test Instrument.
